Extending the Life Cycle of Electrolytic Capacitors

Also called a plate capacitor, a rolled-foil capacitor contains two metal surfaces facing each other with an insulator between them. The "plate" stack is rolled up to conserve space. The amount of charge they can store depends on the total area of the metal surfaces (the "plates") and on the distance between them.

In electrical engineering, a capacitor is a device that stores electrical energy by accumulating electric charges on two closely spaced surfaces that are insulated from each other. The capacitor was originally known as the condenser, a term still encountered in a few compound names, such as the condenser microphone. It is a passive electronic component with two terminals.
